Professional Permaculture and the Digital Design Process

Take your Permaculture design skills to the next level. This comprehensive 10-day course prepares you to create stunning, professional quality base maps and detailed designs using adobe illustrator and the step-by-step, United Designers Permaculture Process. 

 If you’re just starting out with permaculture, or if you’ve been designing for years, there comes a time when it makes sense to go digital. The course touches on hand drawing basics at the onset then quickly moves into the digital realm, to create highly functional, multi layered, living designs that may be updated as a project develops and matures. Using the common and affordable design software allows you to accurately and efficiently collaborate with clients and other designers around the world.

nnThe practical applications of combining ecological and digital design are only limited by the imagination, expertise, and resources of the designer.

This course will cover a complete professional design experience for the Watershed Forest Farm, a vast permaculture homestead, botanical sanctuary and regenerative forestry preserve within the the Cherokee National Forest. Peter Waskiewicz, local Permaculturist and manager of the Watershed Forest Farm will play the roles of client, course participant and host.

Daniel will methodically takes us through the digital design process with simple step-by-step checklists that may be applied to any design anywhere in the world for an efficient and effective workflow.
Participants will receive access to design templates, site assessment documents, element and symbols library and a 1 year subscription to the Permaculture Plant Database .

Along with site visits to the farm, classes and lodging will be concentrated in a quiet Asheville neighborhood, walking distance to downtown and all of the services our fair city has to offer.  

Farm breakfast, lunch, beverages and field trip transportation will be provided. We will follow an intensive 9-5 daily schedule with a 1 hour lunch break and homework assignments. A laptop with preloaded software is required.

Materials list to bring: Laptop PC or Mac (No iPads or Surface PCs), Updated Adobe Illustrator Software, Plant Database Access (supplied), Adobe Acrobat for PDFs, Drop Box® Standard Account (recommended) Drawing tools. A wacom like digitizing pad is highly recommended. Digital note pads and tablets may not be used for the courses.

Peter Waskiewicz is a lifelong student, teacher and advocate of organic farming and sustainable culture. He moved to western North Carolina after ten years in the company of master seedsmen and permaculture designers in New Mexico and the Garden Isle of Kauai. There, he co-founded the pioneering green building firm Southeast Ecological Design and established Asheville’s organic-heirloom seed company, Sow True Seed. Peter and Michelle created Watershed Forest Farm in 2017, their life’s greatest work.

Participation is limited to Permaculture Design Course graduates and advanced practitioners.
